I admit that I listened to the unabridged audiobook (as I did for all of the books I've "read" this year) read by Amy Poehler herself. It was GREAT. I think people may be missing something by reading this book instead of listening to the author (and the accompanying guest readers) read it. You get all of the attitude that may have been lost on the printed page.
Very geeky/nerdy book chock full of references to stuff I love. Great story, though if there's one thing I would nitpick, is that sometimes seeing so many geektastic references piled together in certain parts of the book almost seemed like the author was trying to add them for the sake of adding them, as if he were checking off a list. But OTOH, Halliday was obsessive about this stuff, so it makes sense to the story to do so. A part of me just felt ever so slightly annoyed by the sheer amount of geeky references. But it certainly wasn't a dealbreaker. Highly recommended reading for children of the 80s. :-)
It was alright. I didn't think it was super bad, nor did I think it was great. I am kind of interested to see if the Fred vampire character ever shows up in any novellas of his own. I don't remember him from any of the rest of the Twilight series (it's been a while since I read them, though). He was kind of interesting, even though he had little dialogue. A lot of people panned the novella, but I thought it was interesting to see vampires from a newborn perspective, that's all.
